Robert Downey Jr.'s Oscar nomination woke him up from a nightmare about his kittens
American actor Robert Downey Jr. found out his nomination for an Oscar as he was woken up from a nightmare about his pet kittens.
Robert Downey Jr. learned about the nod for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Oppenheimer when his wife woke him up from a nightmare about his furry friends. The celebrity had a terrible dream his pets had gotten hold of his nicotine replacement product.

The 58-year-old actor starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer movie as Lewis Strauss, a member of the US Atomic Energy Commission.
The acclaimed actor candidly recounted the morning of the nominations to People magazine, revealing his initial confusion before realizing his fantastic achievement. Downey Jr. was having a dream about his cats when he heard the news over his role in Oppenheimer. But it wasn’t a good dream.
He said: “I was having this nightmare that the kittens [Willow and Winifred] had taken one of my Nicorette wrappers, and I was going to get in trouble.”
Robert Downey Jr. credited his wife, producer Susan Downey, for waking him up with the good news. Thankfully, it lead to the pair spending the day together celebrating.
The star, who is now a three-time Oscar nominee, was also up for Best Supporting Actor in 2009, as well as Best Actor in 1993.
He explained the true “reward was the experience” of working with the Oppenheimer cast, which includes Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon.
Talented Downey Jr. also recently won a Golden Globe and BAFTA for his work in the thriller about the world’s first nuclear explosion which forever changed the course of history.
He is a known cat-lover
While the re-encounter of his kitten nightmare is bizarre, many fans were already aware of his love of animals, particularly cats.
Over on his personal Instagram, @robertdowneyjr has shared a few snaps of him and various animals.
Back in July 2022, the star shared a video of him bonding with a feline friend named Monty, to promote the trailer for his series titled ‘The Bond.’

As well as in his personal life, Robert Downey Jr. was also a pet lover in a character he played onscreen. He starred in the 2020 American fantasy adventure film Dolittle.
Also referred to as The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, the movie is about a physician who can speak with animals, embarking on a journey with his furry friends.
The actor also shared Instagram content showing him holding a kitten while filming the movie.
During a press conference for the film, he admitted “there are very few things cuter than a kitten”. And if he could speak to one, he would say: “How can I be as cute as you?”
