Taraji P Henson's two incredible moments at the NAACP Image Awards
Taraji P Henson walked away with Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture statue at the NAACP Image Awards last night, and inspired fans with her speech.
The Hollywood star won the gong for her part in the musical adaptation for The Color Purple. It’s not the first time Taraji P Henson has won, she has obtained multiple awards throughout her career deservedly, and the NAACP ceremony added to her collection. Aside from an inspiring speech on the stage, the celebrity also raised awareness about equal pay for black actresses with host Queen Latifah.

Taraji, who plays Shug Avery in the emotional flick, has been hailed for her incredible performance. Many fans were also surprised to hear her remarkable singing voice which she was able to show off in the movie.
After being named the winner of Outstanding Supporting Actress, Taraji P Henson’s speech was emotional.
She said: “I just want to thank you guys so much for showing up for me all the time. Not just to the box office or watching what I’m in but y’all saw what happened and y’all showed up. Y’all showed out. Y’all showed me love.
“It’s a scary thing to speak your truth, but I urge you all to speak your truth. Because at the end of the day, that’s all we have,” she added.
“And like they say, ‘The truth will set you free.’ And not only that, it will set somebody else free.”

“Thank you to every woman, person in this struggle together, and thank you to my entire cast, crew, Warner Brothers, and Oprah Winfrey. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”
Star teams up with Queen Latifah to call out pay inequality
Taraji P Henson also made waves by teaming up with Latifah at the NAACP Awards to raise awareness over equal pay for Black actresses.
As part of her opening speech, host Latifah spoke about the struggles Americans are currently facing. She says they’re dealing with inflation, which sees Taraji jump in to say that’s something Black stars aren’t dealing with.
The music star begins: “It’s no secret we are facing some seriously pivotal issues.
“Everyone is talking about inflation. You know what’s not feeling inflation?”
Cameras then cut to Taraji in the audience as she says: “Equal pay for Black actresses.”
The crowd erupts into applause as the star thanks her for “standing up for all of us”.
Latifah then asked all the Black stars to stand up to receive the recognition, as they were about to sit back down she asked them to continue standing. She then asked everyone else to stand up with and for them.
“Support us,” she tells the room. “Join us. Because it’s you who stand next to us everyday. We know this and we want to say thank you”.
